We Believe: The Cure Is Within Reach
We Believe: The Cure Is Within Reach
For decades, a cure for cancer seemed just beyond our grasp. Today, at Moffitt Cancer Center, hope is being transformed into action—and into tangible breakthroughs. The Pentecost Foundation’s latest commitment is fueling a powerhouse team of doctors, engineers, and researchers who are not just imagining a world without multiple myeloma—they’re building the science to make it happen.
Our Why
When Mark Pentecost was diagnosed with cancer, his family set out on a search across the country for answers and the very best care. That search led them to Moffitt Cancer Center—a place where breakthrough science is paired with relentless determination to not just treat cancer, but to cure it.
At Moffitt, Mark didn’t just receive treatment—he witnessed a philosophy of care that was different. Here, breakthroughs didn’t just happen in the lab; they were changing patients’ lives in real time, including his own. Mark and his wife Cindy felt compelled to give back, helping establish the Pentecost Family Myeloma Research Center so more families could access the kind of hope and progress they’d found.
From his first diagnosis to today, Mark has seen the evolution of cancer care up close. “The leaps I’ve seen, from my first diagnosis to the treatment options available now, are nothing short of extraordinary. Every step forward at Moffitt is the result of relentless research and innovation. That’s why we give, and why we believe that, together, we’ll see a cure,” he shared at the annual Moffitt Board of Directors retreat.
Now, alongside his wife Cindy, Mark is helping other families find their own breakthroughs—supporting a research center that refuses to settle for “treatable” when a cure is in sight. With their most recent commitment, the Pentecost Foundation is fueling the team at Moffitt as they accelerate bold progress, moving us all closer to a world where hope becomes healing for everyone.
Bold Science, Bold Faith
With leading experts and tools like the AI-powered Ex Vivo Mathematical Myeloma Advisor (EMMA), Moffitt is making progress at a pace once thought impossible—personalizing therapies, accelerating discoveries, and raising the bar for what’s possible in cancer care.
As Dr. Rachid Baz, a leader in Moffitt’s myeloma research, says:
“Our researchers are the best in the world, and they refuse to settle for ‘treatable’ when cure is truly within reach… For the first time, curing myeloma is not just our hope—it’s our expectation.” —Rachid Baz, MD, Section Head of Myeloma, Moffitt Cancer Center
