Located off the northern tip of Pine Island, Pentecost Island (Burgess Island) spans 104 acres and features a remarkable Mediterranean Revival mansion originally built in 1928 by inventor Charles Frederick Burgess, who famously hosted guests like Thomas Edison.

Since acquiring the property in 2015, the Mark and Cindy Pentecost have poured their hearts into restoring and enhancing the island. They added amenities like a nine-hole golf course, sports court, fitness studio, and a museum dedicated to the island’s rich history. Their goal was to transform it into a place where family, friends, and the It Works! community could come together, dream bigger, and celebrate their successes.

Reflecting on what Pentecost Island has meant, Pentecost Group Chairman & President Mark Pentecost shared:

“We bought the island thinking it would be a great getaway, but it became so much more. It’s a place where our family could dream, grow, and just be together. Some of our best memories are late-night bonfires by the water, watching our grandkids run wild under the palm trees, and gathering with friends to celebrate life’s big and small moments. I’m grateful for every minute spent there, and for everyone who has shared it with us.”

Over the years, the island has hosted everything from family weddings to corporate retreats, serving as a backdrop for big ideas, new beginnings, and unforgettable memories. It stands as a reminder of the power of dreaming, celebrating wins and cherishing the moments that matter.

The Wall Street Journal article chronicles the property’s unique history, including visits from Thomas Edison, and offers a glimpse into the Pentecost family’s vision for the island’s future. As Mark and Cindy Pentecost embark on new adventures, the sale of Pentecost Island represents both the closing of a cherished chapter and the opportunity for a new owner to create their own legacy.
